Meeting of the Cross-Sector Task Force (CSTF) 1325 in Baghdad

The Cross-Sector Task Force (CSTF) 1325 held a meeting on 12th October 2017 in the Secretary General of the Council of Ministers in Baghdad.

The meeting was headed by the General Secretary of the Council of Ministers Dr. Mahdi Al Alaq, the head of the CSTF1325, and attended by the Secretary General of the High Council of Women Affairs in the Kurdistan Region, Mrs. Pakhshan Zangana, the Head of the High Commission for Women Development in Iraq Dr. Thikra alwash, and legal advisor to the President of Iraq and Chair of the Legal Committee of the CSTF 1325, Mr. Amir Kenani, parliaments and representatives from Iraq government and Kurdistan government.cross2

The General Secretary of the Council of Ministers shed light on the implementation of the National Action Plan 1325 and the follow up of the work of the teams in the relevant ministries, and the comments of the United Nations in this regard. He explained the challenges that Iraq is facing due to the financial issue and the need to overcome these challenges in order to implement the National Action Plan 1325. He highlighted that the Iraqi government will pay efforts in order to allocate a budget for the plan within the budget of 2018.

The Secretary General of the High Council of Women Affairs in the Kurdistan Region shed light on the efforts that being paid in this regard and the importance of the meeting of the Cross-Sector Task Force (CSTF) 1325 in this time due to the role of women in peace and security and in countering terrorism in Iraq. She stressed on providing opportunities to the Iraqi women in order to have an active and essential role in the society and to spread the culture of non-violence and dialogue.

Ms. Suzan Aref, Coordinator of Cross Sector Task Force 1325 in Iraq shared the importance of periodic reports and the need to institutionalize the work and the establishment of a secretariat for the national team.
